You should repair a car puncture as soon as you notice it to prevent further damage to the tire or unsafe driving conditions. Here are some key situations when you need to repair a puncture:
1. Immediately After Detection – If you notice a slow leak or a flat tire, inspect it as soon as possible to avoid driving on a damaged tire.
2. Before Driving Long Distances – If you’re planning a trip, check your tires for any punctures to avoid unexpected breakdowns.
3. If You Notice a Loss of Pressure – If one tire consistently loses air, it may have a small puncture that needs repairing.
4. When There’s a Nail or Sharp Object Stuck in the Tire – If you see an object lodged in the tire, don’t pull it out unless you’re ready to repair it, as it could cause rapid deflation.
If the puncture is small (usually less than ¼ inch in diameter) and located in the tread area, it can often be patched or plugged. However, if the sidewall is damaged or the hole is too large, you may need a replacement.
